#4 – Innovative Gripping Technologies

Adaptive and smart grippers combining real-time tactile sensing and shape-adaptive actuation to enable precise, safe, and energy-efficient manipulation across diverse industrial environments

1. Continuous sensing industrial grippers

A breakthrough in industrial gripper technology with integrated multi-modal sensing and real-time force feedback, enabling precise, adaptive grasping of diverse objects in challenging environments.

It dramatically improves sensing capabilities, regulates grasping force dynamically, enhances system efficiency and safety during pick-place-release operations, and provides proactive disturbance compensation in harsh industrial settings, solving the critical limitations of current rigid grippers that lack sensitivity, adaptability, and robustness.

The solution combines advanced hardware FBG integrated industrial fingers and suction cups, embedded real-time signal processing software, and ROS2 integration.

HARTU targets high-impact sectors including consumer goods, food processing, automotive manufacturing, logistics, and tool manufacturing, delivering safer human-robot collaboration, higher yield and quality, reduced product damage, and increased automation feasibility in unstructured or variable conditions.

2. Electroadhesive soft grippers

A new generation of electroadhesive soft grippers designed to handle delicate, irregular and hard-to-grasp objects in unstructured industrial environments. Unlike conventional grippers, these solutions combine soft materials, embedded sensors and electroadhesion technology to ensure gentle yet reliable grasping, with a particular focus on top-down manipulation tasks.

The grippers integrate sensing, adaptive contact surfaces and controlled electroadhesive actuation, enabling stable pick-and-place operations, slippage detection and safe interaction with objects of different shapes and materials.

Validated through extensive experimental testing and integrated within the HARTU robotic framework, these grippers demonstrate robust performance and readiness for real industrial applications, supporting more flexible, human-centred and safe automation in Industry 5.0 scenarios.
